Baba Ali Toumi and Abdellah Dihani are now detained in the prison of Ait Meloul/Morocco

The Saharawi Human right organization ASVDH
has learned that two Saharawi students Baba Ali Toumi and Abdellah Dihan
are now detained in the prison of “Ait Meloul” south of “Agadir”, after being incarcerated in prison “Okasha”, then “Berchid” near Casablanca/Morocco .
Their conditions of detention are harsh and not consistent with international law or the Moroccan law.
The authorities of the prison of Ait Melloul deliberately trying to intimidate the student researchers since their arrival, in accordance with the instructions and recommendations that accompany the transfer of detainees since the prison in Casablanca. The students were separated from their arrival in the middle of last week. Each lives in a cell with 47 common prisoners.
Both students Saharans Aba Ali Toumi and Dihan Abdellah had been arrested on board a train, following a political debate with a man who had presented then as an officer of the royal palace.
They were quickly sent to the Court of First Instance in Casablanca, which issued a verdict in less than forty-eight hours, condemning them to a year in prison. The Court of Appeal had then reduced the sentence to six months in prison.
The “Ait Melloul” prison authorities currently have exaggerated attitudes toward their families during visits, conducting body searches even underwear. These acts of intimidation are accompanied by racist words and insulting.
The Moroccan authorities have seized all the other books and documents with which both students preparing their thesis University and refused to deliver them to families, arguing they were lost.
